Dental Inlays & Onlays
At Medgaus Dental Group we use dental inlays and dental onlays when tooth damage, including decay, requires more than a simple filling but not a full-coverage crown. The term “inlay” means the molded material is used as a substitute for the damaged part in the inner structure on the biting surface of your tooth. On the other hand, “onlay” is required when the damage includes one or more cusps or points
Inlays and onlays are prepared carefully in a dental lab by clinicians who make sure these prosthetics fit well with your teeth, helping you achieve optimum functionality. Once the prosthetic is properly fitted, it is bonded tightly to your tooth to ensure 100% functionality.
One of the benefits of inlays and onlays is that they mimic the teeth’s natural color and, because they are prosthetics, are less prone to discoloration compared to basic teeth-colored fillings. An even more important benefit is the preservation of the tooth. At Medgaus Dental Care we hope to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. Compared to other methods, such as crowns, inlays and onlays seek to maintain the integrity of the healthy parts of the tooth. As a result, only the damaged parts of the tooth are restored or repaired.
If you have concerns concerned about the safety of inlays and onlays, don’t be. They are very stable in nature, and you can expect that they will not do further damage to your teeth. Since they are comprised of substances that are friendlier and more compatible with teeth, they also promote dental strength and durability.
Once we secure your restoration with an inlay or outlay it can last for 15 years or more with the right care. And…and your beautiful smile will continue to give you the confidence to be you!
