DENTAL IMPLANTS PROCESS - PITTSBURGH, PA
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH THE DENTAL IMPLANTS PROCESS
Dental Implants: The Ideal in Tooth Replacement
Dental implants are one of the most ideal solutions for patients missing one, several, or all their teeth. As the only permanent tooth replacement, implants hold many advantages that no other options can boast. Dental implants replace entire teeth, from the root to the crown, making them virtually identical to natural teeth in both function and aesthetics. For this reason, the implant process needs the skill of an experienced dentist to ensure that these advantages last for the long-term. Dr. Carl Medgaus has been placing dental implants since 1987 and has vast training and experience in both the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implants. He has placed over 5,000 implants and completed over 600 full arch cases, with a implant success rate of over 99 percent! Having trained in some of the top implant organizations in the world, including the Pikos Institute and Misch Implant Institute, Dr. Medgaus is highly qualified to provide comprehensive implant care, completing all aspects of your treatment in the comfort of our office! If you are considering dental implants, we encourage you to read about what to expect with our process, then schedule your consultation with us!
-
The initial consultation at our office includes a review of your medical and dental history, a series of x-rays with our cone beam CT scanner, and a discussion of your smile goals and implant options. With an end goal visualized, we begin planning your personalized treatment process! Depending on your needs, you may qualify for single dental implants, Stabili-Teeth®, implant supported dentures, or TeethXpress®.
-
On your day of surgery, we have already created the surgical guides used to precisely place implants in your jaw and created a temporary prosthesis if it is part of your treatment process. The treatment site is numbed with local anesthetic and you receive additional sedation, if needed. With the surgical guide in place, we use special tools to surgically insert the implant(s) into your jaw bone. In most cases, teeth can be extracted to day of your surgery and a provisional attached to the implants if you are receiving Stabili-Teeth™ or TeethXpress.
-
Dental implants commonly take about four months to fully integrate with the jaw bone and the area to heal. Once Dr. Medgaus determines that the implants are integrated and stable in the bone, an appointment can be set for you to receive your final dental crown or prosthesis!
-
Your final restoration is handcrafted by experienced ceramists skilled in creating life-like, personalized, and durable dentures and crowns. At this appointment, we will ensure your bone and implants are fully healed, then attach your final restoration. You will walk out of our office with a fully functioning, attractive tooth or set of teeth. Now you can enjoy all the advantages dental implants have to offer, and most importantly, a renewed sense of confidence!
-
An equally crucial part of your dental implants process is the follow-up care to make sure your implants and restorations are functioning correction and you are taking good care of your new teeth. Follow-up appointments also let us monitor your new teeth, a proactive approach that keeps your mouth and implants healthy and free from disease.
